Lainey elizabeth : portrait photographer
Meet your photographer
I’m Lainey - and I have many facets. I’m a professional Photographer, Pilates Instructor, I bake sourdough bread on weekends, I own a studio drum kit (played in my spare time), my Spotify predicted I was 85 years old (I’m an old soul), and I’ll soon be a wife. I studied art and graphic design through school, with my sights set on a career in the latter. I’ve always been keen on taking photos, initially from my first point and shoot digital camera, before I upgraded and began playing around on my mum’s much larger Canon DSLR (I have very supportive parents).
Photos very quickly became a fascination to me - less in the sense of learning to make my foreground crisp and clear - and more in the sense of discovering the importance of light and shadow. When studying my Diploma in Photography, I got to play around a lot in the darkroom with film, and learnt a lot in the studio using speed lights. It was like I was 10 all over again - relearning a skillset that has now become second nature, and it reaffirmed my principles. Photography to me is art - and how I capture clients in a session is my artist’s interpretation of you, as a person, as a partner, and the connection you share.
If curiosity has bought you here, then here’s what you need to know;
I capture your photos with the light in mind - always calculating and manipulating how it wraps around a subject. I keep colours honest and true - because it’s a reflection of exactly that moment, that time, that place where we were. I think black and white is the most timeless image style there is. I love when clients ask me “can we do some spinning” - PLEASE do. Movement will always break down the barrier when a client is feeling awkward and stiff, so expect to do some walking (maybe even some running). My favourite portraits are the ones when you’re not looking - because when there’s a connection between two people - it’s alive and burning as soon as they look at each other. If my photos could tell stories, they would tell stories of you.
Expect your images to be timeless, real, and full of emotion. If this sounds like your kinda gig - let’s get in touch.
